Best foot forward
The snakehips of salsa have charmed the continent for decades, and what girl about town can resist music, mojitos and manly men?
If I could interview any band, Cherry Ghost was always at the top of my list. I was introduced to them by a friend and their evocative lyrics grabbed me. So when I got a text from my friend Marco from Music-News.com to ask whether I wanted to go see them live and interview them I nearly bit his arm off! Check back here next week for the interview.
‘Who are Cherry Ghost?’ I hear you cry! Well don’t worry, you’re not the only one…when I texted my flatmate my news his reply was “Means nothing to me, but well done, cherries are nice and I believe in ghosts!”
Cherry Ghost are an Indie-Rock band from Bolton and began in 2005. Simon Aldred, lead singer and guitarist, started as a solo artist before Cherry Ghost was morphed into a band and signed to Heavenly Records. Their debut single, Mathematics was released in April 2007 and their debut album Thirst for Romance entered the Charts at Number 7.
Their accolades include being nominated for Best New Act at the 2007 Q Awards and they won an Ivor Novello Award in the category Best Contemporary Song for People Help the People.
Cherry Ghost are now back in the spotlight and currently on tour promoting their second album Beneath This Burning Shoreline set for release in July.
I saw them play at the Lexington in Islington, a great music venue and lounge bar. They were absolutely incredible live and they played some of their old favourites including 4am and wowed us with their new tracks including We Sleep on Stones.
I was lucky and got to interview front man Simon who was completely down to earth. Sitting on a pub bench drinking bottles of Bud, we chatted about their old and new work.
Kissing Strangers is their first song set to be released on the 5th July, and when asked whether he has a habit of ‘Kissing Strangers’ – he didn’t disappoint! Look out for the interview on Girl About Town next week.
