Farewell Fashion Week!
As Fashion Week packs up for another season, Becci vallis presents to you the Kalimocho LFW Awards
Just because it’s a Sunday doesn’t mean fashionistas get a day off - this is round-the-clock reporting from Fashion Week don’t you know. Fortunately, I didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn for my chosen show of the day. With a rather respectable show time of 11.30am, Qasimi had already won me over before I’d even arrived at the venue.
One of the most eagerly anticipated shows to grace the London line-up of designers, Qasimi’s fourth collection was once again held in an off-site venue. Last season the Autumn/Winter show took place in a church where the likes of Erin O’Connor, Jasmin le Bon and Lily Cole modelled the collection, this year, it was held in The Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street.A discreet and unmarked building, if it hadn’t have been for the hordes of fabulously-dressed people queuing up outside the entrance (check out the Union Jack shoes above), I would have trotted straight past it (FYI I swapped my boots for pink t-bar heels today!).
Set four storeys up, this disused space had been transformed into a shabby chic emporium. Model-esque waiters handed out chilled champagne and strawberries, (is it awful to admit that that was my first drink of the day?), while everyone casually chatted and took part in the routine head-to-toe outfit inspections with every new arrival. My favourite was the man in the sequin jacket – and I thought I looked overdressed for a Sunday! As expected, the show was fabulous. Bold structured silhouettes sporting futuristic cropped jackets and winged hips embellished in Swarovski crystals, mirror panelling and intricate beading was enough to get even the toughest critic salivating at the selection.
Huge shoulder pads were back in play (for the third day running), while the Byzantium-inspired palette was made up of gold, turquoise, burgundy and blood red, with a splash of nude thrown in for good measure.
