Farewell Fashion Week!
As Fashion Week packs up for another season, Becci vallis presents to you the Kalimocho LFW Awards

Meanwhile, on the highstreet...

It's one thing to pour over haute couture, but what we really want to know is what we'll be wearing come spring 2010. Here are the five main trends I think we'll be rocking by spring next year.

POLKA DOTS: Swap your stripes for spots

Seen at: Luella (right), Caroline Charles, Meadham Kirchoff, Kinder Aggugini

Trend: They were in, they were out, and now they’re back, adorning tees, chiffon shirts, skirts and dresses in both monochrome and bright bold colours. Size doesn’t matter either, so whether they’re itsy-bitsy or big and beautiful, as long as what you’re wearing is splattered with spots you’ll be leaps and bounds ahead of the fash pack.

RUFFLES: Ruched, rumpled and ready-to-wear

Seen at: John Rocha (right), Mattijis, Danielle Scutt, Jasper Conran

Trend:  Fashion works in mysterious ways and this season it has been pioneering the trend for ruffles. Odd you might think seeing as though ruffles add volume to an outfit and it’s very rare for women to want to look larger, however they give clothes a certain vintage quality and an transform an outfit from frumpy to fairy godmother.

SHOULDER PADS: Box clever clothing

Seen at: Qasimi, Paul Costelloe (right), Kangst, Julien MacDonald

Trend: Power dressing is here to stay with shoulder pads looking to become a staple item in any fashionista’s wardrobe. A fast and fuss-free way to give an outfit the wow factor, why not try puffy sleeves to start with to ease you into the trend? Or, if you’re feeling brave, team with a small waist and diamond shaped skirt – tipped to be next season’s new silhouette.

PASTELS: Ice-cream candy colours

Seen at: Burberry, Nicole Farhi, John Rocha, Christopher Kane (right), Louise Goldin

Trend: Don’t be fooled into thinking that watercolour hues can look wishy-washy, because the runways were flooded with sugary pinks, sky blues, lemon yellows, apple greens and soft lilacs. Girly and feminine, pastel prints are a great introduction to the new season’s palette, or do as the designers do and mix them with bold brights or metallics.

SEQUINS: 24-hour sparkle

Seen at: Jaeger London, Pringle of Scotland, Ashish, Burberry (right)

Trend: Somerset House could have been lit solely by the number of sequins it must have seen pass through its doors this week. Worn by onlookers and models alike, it’s a trend that’s set to continue - into next season at least. Proving that they’re perfectly acceptable daywear too, simply throw a sequined jacket over a summer dress, and voila, you’ve just updated your look.

And so that's it for another season, but before I hang up my fringed heels, I leave you with my favourite outfits of the season. Whether it's the punchy use of colour by Luella or Qasimi's big and boxy shapes, I just love the fun and frivolity of the spring/summer collections. See my wishlist here.
