HITLIST: job interview prep tracks
You're suited & booted & ready to declare 'working too hard' as one of your faults - get in the mood with these tunes
By Briony Edwards
- Don’t Stop Believing
By: Journey – 1970s Californian band
Why? “Don’t stop, beliiieeeeving, hold on to that feeee-eeee-eee-eeeeeeeling!” Indeed, do NOT stop believing that that job will be yours. This is the ultimate track to pump you up and get yourself some good, healthy PMA.
- Smells Like Teen Spirit
By: Nirvana – Prolific 90s grunge band lead by the iconic Kurt Cobain, who met his controversial demise in 1994.
Why? The energetic chorus and driving guitars in this song make it basically impossible for any living human to listen and not experience the surge of endorphins at the hands of the world’s hugest adrenaline rush.
- The Impossible Dream
By: Old Blue Eyes – better known (just about) to the world as Frank Sinatra, 1940s Rat Pack legend.
Why? This song is possibly the most inspiring song ever written by anyone ever – and therefore, perfect interview prep. There are a few reasons for this – predominantly the lyrics - “This is my quest, to follow that star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far, to be willing to give when there's no more to give, to be willing to die so that honor and justice may live”- phew. Also, the orchestral backing makes you feel pretty well invincible.
- Don’t Stop Me Now
By: Queen – English rock band from the 1980s, whose lead singer Freddie Mercury famously died from AIDS in the 90s
Why? This song can be described as nothing less than an anthem, and the inspirational and uplifting tune and lyrics will surely spur you onto nothing but success at the hands of the terrifying firing squad you’re soon to meet.
- Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
By: Marvin Gaye teamed up with Tammi Terrell on this one to create this Motown classic in 1967.
Why? There IS no mountain high enough, and there IS no valley low enough, to keep you from getting to that dream job. Unless of course, you’re like me, and suffer from chronic laziness. Tangents aside, this one will put you in a mood where a lack of success will be basically impossible.
